What are your best memories ?

Just attended a funeral service earlier for a friend's mother, led by Pastor Ming. During the service, he lightened up the mood by telling us to not ask about what happened during the incident or even at the hospital. Rather, we should be asking the family what do they remember most about their beloved mother, what are the fond memories that they hold closest to their hearts.

During the sharing session by this friend, he flashed a short and simple yet touching photo montage of the precious moments shared between his family and their mother. I felt a wave of warmth and guilt at the same time. I searched my heart for that moment and realized that neither my sister nor I, have really been spending much time with our parents, let alone capture any of these moments on photos. They are the ones closest to us each day of our lives yet they seem so far as we start to get drawn into our own activities. Is saying "I have no time" really the best reason (or excuse) to even have a decent meal with them once a week ?

Do we want to keep giving the same reason and only regret at the very last moment, which by then may well be too late ? Those who are reading this (myself inclusive), wait no more for there's no right or best moment to say to those closest to us a simple "I love you" or even make a cup of their favourite coffee for them.

More importantly, let this not be a reactive action towards guilt but an everyday action centred around love.

The Beginning of Blessings

It started with an innocent chat that went like "Hey so when I get married, what are you going to give me arh ? I want this , that , that , this ... "

Suddenly his tone became a little more serious and he went "So what would you like me to get you ?"

I thought it was a nice n sincere offer then .... That was last week.

Today back in the office, I thanked him for his really generous offer then and to add on that if he really wanted to get something for me, must tell me so that I don't end up getting the same item for my new place. He went "Seriously, what would you like for your wedding gift ? Is a Hi-Fi good for you ?"

I was like "Wow !" Of course, I went "Sure ! Just let me know ok ?"

I'm already beginning to feel God's blessings ahead of time ... Thank you Paul ...

"Hello, There's Plenty of SPACE ..."

Just when you think female drivers are not as good, wait till you see female cyclists ....

I was driving home with Cherry after service on Sunday and was behind a car at the traffic light. The car in front was heading straight and I was turning left, but this couldn't happen until traffic was green. And so let there be green ... the car went its way and I to mine.

Here's a visual of what happened ...

#1 was my car, attempting to turn left as soon as traffic started moving. On my right was another lane with cars already moving off. #2 was this lady on a bicycle, on the road, heading in my direction, wobbling away. As a nice driver, I slowed down and waited for her to figure out her next move. Seriously, at that point, I could not tell if she was going to mount the pavement, or to keep cycling on the road against traffic or what !

As soon as I slowed down, guess what ? She said out loud "Hello, there's a lot of space lar ..." I mean hey, can you even see my blind spot at the right ? I can't since I was focused on an immediate obstacle. What if there was a bike zooming straight on beside me, if I had steered right a little just to make way for Ms Wobbly, I'd probably had send Superman flying off his bike across the road. And the fact I slowed down was to give way to her first.

At that point, she was like just at the front left corner of my car, close enough to give my car body an extreme makeover. Ask Cherry, she probably could've given the lady a hi-5 with her window wound down.

I think it's about time the Government started banning cyclists on the road, better yet, impose class XX licenses for these group of people who want to take their gear on the roads. They need road traffic education seriously ... no proper protection, no safety consideration to other road users and worse off ... she'd probably be banned for life for driving riding against traffic !

2010 - The Best Year Yet !

Gosh ... I just realized that I've had this blogger account since October 2003 and this is my first post, some 6+ years later ! Haha ...

Anyway, that's not important. At least this is a milestone for me !

As I was walking home after sending Dear off at the bus-stop, I mentally planned what I wanted to do tonight. If I had blogged the entire list down, I'd probably end up doing none of them. So I decided to just get down to blogging my thoughts down quickly. I think I've learnt my lesson, after years of procrastination, after years of "careful planning" in wanting the things I wish to accomplish turn out the way I visualized them to be. I think it is more important to seize the moment and make adjustments along the way ... Am I wrong ? Yes ? No ? Let's wait n see ...

I wanted to start my first blog with a reflection of the past 30 years of my life ... BUT there's something more important that takes centrestage.

Today was Pastor Kong's 1st Sunday Service in 2010 at CHC with us ... He shared not only an exciting message but THE best news yet to come ! He announced that CHC is finally gonna get that dream building that they've been praying for, planning and working towards for the past 4 years ? Sorry if I got the calendar of events wrong, I'm only less than a year old in CHC but nonetheless I'm totally excited. After years of backsliding, I made my way back into a place I'm confident I'd grow in and truly belong ! What a way to start the year indeed - such great news !

The message he shared today, was leading towards this big announcement. Indeed it was so true and timely for me as he spoke about 4th Dimension Living - 1. Thinking 2. Visions & Dreams 3. Faith 4. Speaking

He shared from Luke 1 - The story of Zacharias and his lack of faith in prayer. "A moment of Zacharias" as he termed it, can really be so dampening to our faith as we ask, yet we fall short to believe that we will receive. Mark 11:24 says "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you will have them." It struck my heart immediately like an arrow piercing through, answering the thought and fear that had been lingering on my mind since the beginning of 2010.

I truly believe that God shall provide for my (our) needs, according to His riches and glory and as I seek His kingdom first, all shall be added unto me.

Now ... anyone care to contribute to my own Building Fund other than this year's and the coming years' Arise and Build ? :D
